WP2 – Water pulsations
Emerging new techniques are developed to capture the state of the critical zone from surface observations. In WP2.1, superconducting gravimeters are monitoring water storage variations in both vadose zone and groundwater systems. Pressure variations power water flow, but also generate poroelastic deformation measurable at the Earth’s surface (WP2.2, hydrogeodesy). A new prototype for soil moisture measurements up to a depth of 70cm is developed based on a simultaneous inversion of permittivity and conductivity (WP2.3).
